Marianne Skjelbred allows her paintings to take shape through a play of colors and textures. Her fearless use of color creates a distinctive positive atmosphere, while light remains at the heart of her work. She is fascinated by the changing effects of light and seeks to capture them in her art.
Creating has been part of Marianne’s life since childhood. She began with drawing and gradually explored a wide range of techniques, including printmaking, linocut, ceramics and charcoal. In 1997, she graduated as a photographer. That photographic background remains visible in the way she approaches composition and, above all, light.
Today, Marianne Skjelbred is a Norwegian contemporary artist working from her own gallery and studio in the heart of Bergen. Her artworks are inspired by Bergen and the landscapes of Western Norway, including the fjords, coast, mountains, changing weather and Northern Lights.
